We purchased Big Igor in 2008. He was so popular with the staff that they came to say goodbye to him. He would eat right out of your hand and had an insatiable appetite.
He was a favourite with visitors – who weren’t used to such a friendly fish.
A few years ago, he developed a severe curvature in his spine, but it didn’t seem to bother him as he continued to roar around the pond. He really enjoyed Phase III where he could let loose.
In the Spring of 2013, he developed a small ulcer that continued to grow. I set up a hospital tank and treated him daily – but it continued to grow. I took him to Clarke Koi for expert care, but it spread to his gills and he died.
I buried him under the new pond at the back.
